Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Soldiers Group

Since the launch of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a diverse cast of heroes, and a gripping narrative including celestial beings, demons, and malevolent powers growing in strength within the city.

Warning: Key plot points for Episode 3 of the new season are included.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

The third episode ended with a dramatic pause and presented the first table of characters who will separate from the central cast to embark on their independent quest, apart from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table features Teor (played by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

Given 13 cast members, it was clear from the outset that maintaining everyone at one table would be impossible.

This explains, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, connecting the individual narratives before splitting into three distinct groups: Fighters, Strategists, and Seekers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for players who are drawn to a typically action-packed battle-oriented gameplay experience where non-violent answers are scarce.

Initially, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander might look mismatched, but the events of episode 3 show why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

To begin with, the party knows exactly where to go next after a violent opening clash with the enemy group.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose passing initiated the narrative’s action—manipulated the foes for his selfish purposes, entering the hidden lair, striking the rogue, and stealing all the powerful objects to sell off.

Casimir then paid off his obligations and escaped to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the city, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each adventurer has a specific drive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and best friend, wants vengeance.
  • Kattigan knows the northern area and warns that it is a hostile place.
  • The warrior and The healer, having resisted his house’s orders to kill the fighter and instead saved him, have no other options.
  • Yet, their reputation as key figures in House Halovar could enable the team reach locations they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, Teor vowed a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his rescue and will now accompany him everywhere.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are hunted by the rulers that control the setting for a multiple motives, making staying in the city dangerous:

  • The rogue and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • The strong figure and Wicander turned against the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by the family.

This means them no alternative but to travel to the northern region in search of the traitor.

Future Episodes

According to the latest episode’s post-show segment, we discover that the warrior group will be absent the following episode, leaving the rest of the players to assemble the Seekers and Strategists parties.

Viewers can look forward to discovering which adventurers will be in which group in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, streaming live on October 24.
